Players

A player is one of your users. Gemifier recognizes them by the ID of your choice.

What is held against that ID comes in two halves:

  • What you send. The events they generate, and the attributes you set on them.
  • What Gemifier works out. Their progress on each mission, their streaks, where they stand on a leaderboard, their points balance and what they have spent them on.

You choose the ID

Send whatever your product already calls that user. A database ID, an email, a customer reference. Send it in exactly the same form every time, because two spellings are two players.

A player appears the first time you mention them

There is no sign-up step and nothing to create in advance. The first time you tell Gemifier what someone did, or ask which missions they have, that player exists.

You can also create one up front, which is worth doing at sign-up if you know their time zone then.

Existing is not the same as taking part. A player's missions start when you first ask for their list, and anything you send before that moves nothing. Ask for the list as soon as the player is someone you want to reward. See Missions.

Their time zone decides when their day ends

A player can carry their own time zone, so a streak day and a monthly reset happen at midnight where they are. A coffee chain running "buy one a day this week" wants a customer in Lisbon and a customer in Warsaw to each get their own week, not the head office's. Players with no time zone of their own fall back to the project's.
